A BAN on recreational fishing using bait and jigs in the critical habitat of the Grey Nurse Shark has been revoked by the NSW Government
FISH ROCK & GREEN ISLAND on the mid-north coast of NSW is one of the top aggregation areas of the critically endangered Grey Nurse Shark in Australia and is home to another vulnerable species – the Black Cod.
Accidental hooking from fishing activity can lead to a cruel, lingering death from starvation or blood poisoning.
Scientific studies show around 1500 of these sharks remain on the east coast where 5000 is the minimum for a species to be considered viable.
Studies show up to 85% of people surveyed support marine protection.
